Five elite premiums were awarded at The Baileys Horse Feeds/ British Breeding/British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Futurity headed to Writtle College, Essex on Thursday (14 August).
Two-year-old colt, Summertime Blues (pictured above) (Spoercken x Margue H) was the highest scorer for owner and breeder Lynne Crowden. He scored an elite premium of 9.21 in the dressage section. Lynne said: “Summertime Blues is a cracking horse, he has developed really well. He goes for licensing a week tomorrow.” The Futurity evaluators said: “He has good uphill carriage and is balanced with good reach.”
The second highest scorer of the day was also courtesy of Lynne Crowden and the Woodlander Stud. 
The very consistent dressage sports pony Woodlander Wales (pictured right) (Woodlander Wavavoom x Talon Teifion) scored an elite premium of 9.14. This is the third time the now three-year-old colt has been to the Futurity and the third time he has scored an elite premium. Lynne said: “Wales is so consistent, we are very excited about his future. He is now under saddle and will go to Germany for his performance test later this year and we are also keen to go for selection for the equine bridge”. Wales is approved to three stud books; the SPSS, WBFUK and Weser EMS.
In the showjumping section, colt foal, Clint (pictured left) (Balou Du Rouet Oldenburg x Broadstone Landmark) scored an elite premium of 9.03 for owners and breeders, Lisa Maynard and Chris Jackson from Mayjak Sports Horses. The evaluators said: “His canter is well balanced with good steps from behind”.
Kirst Millard’s sports pony filly foal, KMD Dornlight
(pictured right) (Rembrandt DDH x Dornik B) took an elite premium of 9.02 in the dressage section. The Futurity evaluators said: “KMD Dornlight is supple with good sit and self-carriage in the trot”. Kirsty is a former member of British Young Breeders and has represented the SHBGB team at the International Young Breeders Championships.
The final elite premium of the day went to Sharon Keable’s dressage colt foal, Divine Comedy (pictured left) 
(Debonair x Ritmeister), he scored, 9.00. Sharon was delighted with him, she said: “My boss, Jenny Belloy gave me the opportunity to use her broodmare, Bieke Van Ter Lint to breed a foal for myself. She is a lovely mare and I jumped at the chance. Divine Comedy is lovely, he has a fantastic personality and is kind and trainable. I was worried before the Futurity in case he didn’t get a good score!” Divine Comedy will go to his Oldenburg grading next week.
Evaluators for the day were Nicole Nelson, Mandy Luesley, Jennie Loriston Clarke and Futurity vet, Jane Nixon.
