Three elite premiums at Plumpton College

  • The Baileys Horse Feeds/British Breeding/British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Futurity continued at Plumpton College in Sussex on Wednesday the 13th August where three youngsters attained elite premiums.

Dressage colt foal, Allegretto (pictured above) (Antango x Goodtimes) went home with the highest score of the day of 9.33 for his owner and breeder, Caroline Cooper of the Bayliss Stud in Dunsfold, Surrey. The evaluators commented on his elasticity, suppleness and power in all three gaits. Alegretto’s dam, Special Lady has competed in 1.50m showjumping classes. Caroline said: “We were hoping to get an elite premium with Allegretto. As soon as he was born, he was just perfect”.

Classictop Party Girl (2)Jane Townshend of the Classictop Stud in Crowborough took an elite premium of 9.18 with her filly foal, Classictop Party Girl (pictured right) (Lauriston x Randi) in the showjumping section. Party Girl’s dam, Birthday Girl has proved a very good broodmare, producing two elite foals and two higher firsts previously through the Futurity system. Jane said: “Party Girl will be retained and sent off to be produced for competition”.

Filly foal, Fiorelle (pictured below left) (Feedback x Lauries Crusador) scored an elite premium of 9.08 in the dressage section. Her good ground cover and hind leg placement in the canter was a particular highlight for the evaluators. Fiorelle was bred and is owned by Ashleigh Hill who said: “It was Fiorelle (3)a lovely surprise. I bought Fiorelle’s dam, Lillie Maleen when she was in foal to Sir Donnerhall two years ago. This is the first time I have chosen a stallion. I am delighted with my decision!”

Also from the Classictop Stud was two-year-old showjumper, Classictop Conviction (Renkum Offender x Rockwell) who took home a higher first premium of 8.96. This is the third time Classictop Conviction has attended the Futurity and the third time he has achieved a higher first premium. Classictop Conviction was bred by Jane Townshend and is now owned by Rachel Froud.

Glorestan Jazz (Jazz x Florestan) was the highest scoring three-year-old of the day with a higher first premium of 8.96 in the dressage section, qualifying him for the selection day of the Equine Bridge, for owner and breeder Johanne Dykes. Johanne competed Glorestan Jazz’s dam, Florestamber to international level which culminated in 9th place in the final kur on the 2008 Sunshine Tour. Johanne said: “I am really pleased with Glorestan Jazz. Florestamber is near and dear to my heart, she is back in foal for next year to my stallion, Brennus B”.

Highest scoring eventer of the day was Julia Soyke’s, Just A Jewel (Grafenstolz x Catherston Liberator). This two-year-old bay filly scored a higher first premium of 8.86 and is the second generation bred by Julia. Julia said: “Just A Jewel’s dam, Just A Giggle and her granddam, Just A Second were both successful eventers. I am very excited about Just A Jewel, she is bold, curious and nimble with a good brain and is the best one I have bred so far”.

Heading the yearlings at Plumpton was Bling (Kannan x Bahamian Bounty) scoring a higher first premium of 8.83 in the showjumping section for owner and breeder, Yvonne Ferguson.

Evaluators for the day were Charlotte Barrow, Lynne Crowden, Amy Mills and Futurity vet, Jane Nixon.
