Harry Meade and his Badminton partner Wild Lone have been given a last minute call-up to represent Britain in the Nations Cup at Aachen later this month (17-19 July).
They have been brought in to replace Tina Cook and De Novo News — who are part of the British World Equestrian Games (WEG) squad — who will compete at Barbury this weekend (3-6 July) instead.
It was announced earlier this week that Izzy Taylor has been forced to withdraw from the WEG team after a minor training set back with Allercombe Ellie.
There is speculation that Harry’s call up for the Nations Cup is giving him the opportunity to show his WEG credentials. Although the reserves have not been officially announced yet, Harry tweeted that he was among them.
“I’m obviously excited at the chance to go, and particularly looking forward to being part of the team environment,” Harry said.
Izzy will still be competing her Bramham runner-up Orlando in Aachen who could be another WEG squad contender.
Piggy French and Jakata were also named in the team earlier this week. The 2011 Badminton runner-up is coming back from injury, but a good result at Aachen could pilot them onto the WEG squad.
The squad is completed by William Fox-Pitt and his WEG ride Chilli Morning.
Gemma Tattersall (Arctic Soul) is also thought to be in the running for a WEG call-up, as she also tweeted that she is a reserve.
