Six-figure Lottery grant for Riding for the Disabled group

  • Riding for the Disabled (RDA) groups are being urged to apply to the Big Lottery Fund (BLF), after one branch was awarded a grant of more than £400,000 towards its running costs.

Haworth RDA in West Yorks will use the money to help sustain staffing levels and look after the group’s 10 horses. It is the second time they have scooped funds from the BLF, having been awarded £380,000 in 2008.

“Large grants like this are not commonly awarded to RDA groups,” said national fundraising manager Sal Atkinson.

“The BLF’s Reaching Communities programme provides a fantastic opportunity [to apply] for funds that can be used to pay for running costs — often the hardest area for charities to fundraise.

“We would encourage more RDA groups to apply,” she added.
