Police are investigating after 2 separate yards were set on fire in suspected arson attacks, in which 1 horse was killed and another injured.
The fire service was called to the 2 incidents within a quarter of a mile of each other in the village of Hemington, Leics, in the early hours of the morning on 30 December.
1 stable block did not have any horses in it, but the other contained 2 — both of whom suffered serious burns. 1 of the horses, called Bally, had to be put down as a result of her injuries on 3 January.
“My horse is very lucky,” Sarah Cooper told H&H. “He has tar stuck on his head and ears, but he seems to be recovering well.
“Unfortunately, my friend’s horse had to be put down. She was next to the hay barn and tackroom, so suffered from more intense heat.
“She was a very brave horse who tried her hardest right up until the end.”
Leicestershire Police confirmed to H&H tht they are treating the cases as arson.
