Sprinter Sacre mural to greet racegoers at Sandown

  • In honour of last year’s Tingle Creek winner Sprinter Sacre, a giant mural of the horse will greet racegoers to Sandown Park this weekend (6-7 December).

Sprinter Sacre, who was due to defend his title tomorrow (Saturday 7 December), will now not run as he is not considered 100% ready for the race.

But honour of the gelding, who is unbeaten over fences, the racecourse has commissioned artwork to celebrate him.

It’s not your average tribute or statue — on arrival, racegoers will be welcomed by a giant painting of Sprinter Sacre on the wall outside the main entrance.

The mural — which is 18ft high — is by street artist Olivier Roubieu and took 2 days to complete.

Olivier, who has worked with celebrities including rap star Usher, said he was “honoured” to be asked.

“Having not worked at a racecourse before, I enjoyed the challenge of creating a racehorse,” he said.
