Scott Brash is the new world number one showjumper — knocking fellow Brit Ben Maher off the top spot.
Scott’s rise up to the top of the Longines FEI rankings was revealed today (Monday 2 December).
“I’m absolutely ecstatic, not just for myself, but the entire team that has worked so hard,” said Scott.
“After the London Olympics it has always been a goal and to have achieved it, is fantastic.”
The 28-year-old from Peebles in the Scottish Borders moved up from 6th place following his recent win in Qatar, taking the Global Champions Tour final and Doha Grand Prix with Hello Sanctos.
He is now 37 points clear of Olympic and Europeans teammate Ben Maher.
In September Ben became the first British showjumper in 2 decades to top the rankings.
Scott made his international debut in 2010 and was selected for World Equestrian Games in Kentucky the same year.
In December 2011, he took over the ride on Hello Sanctos — the horse he partnered to Olympic and European team gold.
Hello Sanctos’ co-owner Lord Harris told H&H he was “delighted”.
“Last year we said we wanted to make Scott number one and for him to rise through the rankings so fast is brilliant.
“We’re all really, really excited — what a time it’s been. He’s only 28 years old and to have gold Olympic and European medals, plus the Global Champions tour — it’s fantastic.
“All we want now is for him to stay number one. Then the aim is to win team and individual gold at Rio.”
Germany’s Ludger Beerbaum has moved up 4 places into 3rd while the USA’s Beezie Madden, has dropped 2 places to 4th.
