Joint winners over big red wall

  • The honours in Saturday night’s AON Puissance at HOYS were shared between Yorkshire and Lancashire when a packed house saw Carl Curtis on his super-consistent Sarah’s Pride and Robert Maguire with his 2002 joint-winner, Giacomo, divide the top prize at 6ft 11in.

The two may have gone on to a final round, but due to the lateness of the hour — it was almost 11.30pm — the judges made the decision to halt the class and share the £5,500 first prize.

Kent-based Guy Williams earlier had one of his biggest ever paydays when he and Loro Piana Hamlet out galloped a top-class field to take the £3,000 prize in the accumulator.

Guy and Sarah Beaumont Hope’s big chestnut went at the end of the draw and beat William Funnell’s early standard-setter on Cortaflex Machiavelli.
