A new “Equestrian of the Year” rolling trophy will be introduced at the Horse of the Year Show, which is taking place at the NEC, Birmingham from 17-21 September.
The award will be presented to the team or individual who has attained a unique achievement in the equestrian world. This may involve an unsurpassed performance or string of victories or may be in recognition of a lifetime achievement.
The winner will be announced this Friday, and presented with the award during the gala performance on the final evening of the show, Sunday 21 September. At present, organisers are planning for a VIP guest to present the award during the interval before the Grand Prix.
“HOYS is an end of season event,” explains Laura Meyerding of HOYS, “and this is a lovely way to end the season.”
HOYS organisers hope that “Equestrian of the Year” will be become a prestigious title, gaining heightened profile every year.
The trophy has been sculptured from bone china by renowned artist Christopher Collins, and manufactured by Collins Heritage in Stoke on Trent. It depicts a grey horse on a globe, and is based on the original drawing for the first Horse of the Year Show in 1949, from which the famous Horse of the Year Show logo has been developed.
