The Northern Racing College (NRC) and the Animal Health Trust (AHT) are asking racehorse owners to consider them as possible homes for their retired charges.
The NRC based at Doncaster currently has places for four retired racehorses. Horses need to be sound, although temperamentally suited horses with old leg or wind problems would be considered. It is also important that the horses are fairly quiet in the stable, on the gallops and in the school environment.
For further information contact Stephen Goodings at the Northern Racing College (tel: 01302 861000) or e-mail julia@nrcdonc.demon.co.uk
The AHT uses ex-racehorses to support research in to heart and breathing problems in horses. After three to four years the horses are rehomed. For the majority of the time the animals live at pasture and can be visited by their owners.
The AHT is currently looking for five sound horses of any age and good temperament without a history of serious heart or respiratory problems (such as bleeding, roaring or gurgling). Slow horses are very welcome.
Anybody willing to donate a horse should contact Dr David Marlin (tel: 08700 502424) or e-mail: david.marlin@aht.org.uk
