Entrants needed for the RoR Racing to Hunting Challenge

  • Entries are open for the Retraining of Racehorses Meriel Tufnell Racing to Hunting Challenge, which takes place at Cheltenham racecourse on 17 November.

The course will include cross-country fences and additional obstacles, built by Richard Taylor and his team.

Solid fences will not exceed 1.10m, brush 1.30m. There will be a style mark, and a timed section — which will include negotiating a bridge, a gate, dismounting and remounting, and taking a glass of port from a tray.

There will also be a surprise element, to be revealed on the day by course designer Mike Tucker.

“It’s a fun morning out before racing,” said Di Arbuthnot of the RoR. “For those ex-racehorses who have chosen hunting as their next career, it gives them a competitive test.”

The winner will receive £500, £300 for second and £200 for third.

The challenge is open to ex-racehorses that have raced in Britain and are registered with RoR. Entrants must sign a declaration form to show that the horse is hunting regularly. Horses that compete in team chasing are eligible, but point-to-pointers (2013-2014) cannot take part.

To enter, visit www.ror.org.uk/series_hunting.php to download the declaration form.
