Eventer dies in fall

  • British Eventing announced yesterday that Samantha Hudson, 33, suffered a fatal fall at Spring Hills One Day Event in Gloucestershire over the weekend.

Riding her own Nightlight VI, Hudson fell at Novice fence 14, which was a log over a ditch. The horse breasted the fence causing a rotational fall and landed on the rider.

Miss Hudson, from Colwall Green, near Malvern in Worcestershire, was pronounced dead at the scene and the organisers, with the support of the riders, cancelled the remaining competition as a mark of respect.

Jane Holderness-Roddam, chairman of BR, said: “On behalf of the whole sport, I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Samantha’s family.

“The thoughts and prayers of eventing people all over the country are with them at this sad time.”
