Olympic team gold medallist and H&H columnist Carl Hester has been inaugurated into the Guernsey Sporting Hall of Fame.
Carl attended a special presentation at Beau Sejour leisure centre on the island last week where he was shown his wall plaque. It was attended by more than 150 people.
Carl was educated at Elizabeth College in Guernsey and, as has been well-documented, learned to ride on a donkey in Sark. He moved to the UK aged 16, where he initially worked at the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy in Dorset.
“This is a huge honour,” said Carl. “People who want to follow a sporting career — particularly an Olympic one — often have to move away from where they live to train.
“When I was younger I probably thought I would be in the Channel Islands for my whole life, but I had to make the decision to relocate and follow my dream.
“The fact that I’m being honoured in this way makes me still feel very much part of the island and for that I’m very happy. It’s always lovely to come back here.”
