Rosie Fry’s eventing blog: a quiet week after a kick in the thigh

  • It has been a quiet week for me with no eventing, but this was probably a good thing as I managed to get myself kicked in the thigh, so I was feeling pretty sore and bruised for a while. The bruising is quite impressive, but I am just about sound again.

The horses have not been too busy since Keysoe last Monday as Leo (Soltair Justice) had had quite a few runs in quick succession so deserved a bit of downtime. I am now building him up for Gatcombe CIC2* next weekend (that’s if I get in off the wait list — I need 2 more to drop out). Failing that he will go to South of England CIC2* the following week.

Kitkat (Another Breakfast, pictured showjumping at Wellington) has been enjoying his time out in the field, but is entered to run hors concours in the novice at Pontispool on Monday to give him a fun run around and get him to enjoy himself again.

Totty (Totten Lady) had her first jump this week since Bramham, which was very exciting, and I am planning on taking her down to the British Showjumping at Bicton this weekend. All being well she will aim to go to the open intermediate at South of England.

I enjoyed watching the Burghley highlights on Sunday, but was disappointed there was no live TV coverage of the cross-country on Saturday. Surely something needs to be done about this? But what a fantastic competition it turned out to be. An incredible achievement by Jock Paget to win Badminton and Burghley in the same year and on the same horse too. What a class horse Clifton Promise is.

I am gutted not to be going to Blenheim with Kitkat this year, but good luck to everyone there.

Harry Fry Racing — my brother’s business — has its first open day for owners and the media this Sunday so fingers crossed the weather is kind to us!
