Sophie Christiansen nominated for IPC award

  • Paralympic gold medallist Sophie Christiansen has been nominated for the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) athlete of the month award for August.

Sophie was the most successful rider at the FEI European Para dressage Championships in Herning, Denmark last month (21-25 August) — winning three golds.

She took gold in the team competition, individual competition and individual freestyle in the grade Ia class riding Janerio 6.

Sophie’s freestyle test was ridden to music from the computer game The Sims.

Her 3 victories mean she has not been beaten for more than 16 months.

Other athletes short-listed for the award include Australian Erik Horrie, who won gold in the single skulls at the IPC World Rowing Championships and Ukranian Olga Sviderska who won 7 golds at the IPC Swimming World Championships.

The award will be decided by a public vote which closes on 17 September.
