Vote for your Sportswoman of the Year

  • Two leading British riders are among the contenders for The Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year Awards 2001

Pippa Funnell and Stephanie Cooke are just two of the contendersnamed by The Sunday Times for their prestigious Sportswoman of the Year Awards, which takes place at Gibson Hall in the City of London on 11 December.

Last year’s main award was won by Olympic heptathlon champion Denise Lewis, who took home the prize for an unprecedented third time.

This year has been a memorable one for both riders

  • Pippa Funnell made history earlier this month by becoming the first rider to win two European Championships on the same horse, Supreme Rock and helped the British team to a gold medal in Pau.

  • Stephanie Cook, the Olympic modern pentathlon champion, finished her athletics career in style, winning the World Championship at Millfield School in July. After years spent juggling medical and sports careers, Stephanie is now working as a doctor.

Now in its 14th year, the Sportwomen of the Year awards highlight great stories of human endeavour. These include women who have reached the top through talent and dedication; those who inspire others; the unsung administrator, coach, or teacher helping children to learn and enjoy the benefits of sport; teams which have dominated their sport and students with the potential.

You can vote for your choice of Sportswoman of the Year by email to Sportswomen@Sunday-times.co.uk or visit www.sunday-times.co.uk/sport

The closing date for the awards is 9 November.
