Britain wins FEI Nations Cup in St Gallen

  • Britain has won the FEI Nations Cup showjumping in St Gallen, Switzerland, in terrible weather that saw the competition brought to a close with an early jump off.

After the first round, Britain, Switzerland, Ireland and Belgium were tying for first place on eight faults.

Due to the heavy rain and deteriorating ground, the second round was cancelled. Organisers asked Team GBR — Laura Renwick on Oz De Breve, Guy Williams on Titus, Scott Brash on Hello Whisky Mac IV and Joe Clee on Utamaro D’Ecaussines —to jump off against the other teams to decide first place.

In the first round, Laura went clear, Guy and Scott each had four faults, while Joseph had an unfortunate 18 faults.

In his first appearance in a top level Nations Cup squad, Oz de Breve jumped a second clear round for Laura to secure the win for Britain.

The result means that, after three legs of the Nations Cup, Switzerland is in the lead. Britain is fourth, behind France and Ireland.
