North Somerset Council has ruled against an experiment to allow helicopter rides to operate from Weston-Super-Mare beach. The only exception will be for annual holiday events.
The experiment, which took place on the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May, met with fierce objections from donkey owners.
The donkey owners staged a one-day strike – the first time donkey rides had stopped on the beach since 1886.
A spokesman for North Somerset Council said: ” We took views from a number of sources, apart from the donkey owners, including the public, the RSPCA and the Civil Aviation Authority.
“The donkey’s safety was one issue, but there were also considerations like noise for local residents.”
