Competitors at Hickstead will now be able to enjoy foot-perfect going, thanks to a new all-weather showring.
The Hickstead Derby meeting (19-23 June) has a large selection of novice and young horse competitions in the outer rings. And this summer ring four sports a new all-weather surface, due to £200,000 investment from the Bunn family, the owners of Hickstead.
The new arena has been built by Andrews Bowen, made with the all-weather surface used at last summer’s Olympics at Greenwich.
“After last year’s unseasonal weather, we felt we needed to put in another all-weather arena as an insurance against wet years,” said Hickstead’s Lizzie Bunn. “We have built it with many permanent features on the perimeter such as a watersplash, a Devil’s Dyke, banks and steps so that it can also be used for Derbies or working hunter classes if the need arises.”
