Janet Benney, organiser of Highclere horse trials for over 20 years, died on Sunday 7 April at the age of 76 following a long illness.
A popular eventing owner and supporter, Janet produced horses under the “Society” prefix with international eventer Mark Corbett for many years – one of whom, Society Spice, finished 15th at Badminton in 2010 with Emily Llewellyn.
“Janet had a terrific passion and enthusiasm as an owner, organiser and motivator,” said Mike Etherington-Smith, chief executive of British Eventing. “The sport owes her a debt of gratitude.”
The funeral will take place at St Mary’s Church, Beenham, Berks, on Wednesday 17 April at 2pm. Rather than flowers, donations can be made to the Spinal Injuries Association at www.spinal.co.uk.
