Nayef tipped as 2,000 Guineas contender

  • The Haynes, Hanson & Clark Stakes at Newbury on Friday (15 September) was won by first time runner, Nayef.

Trained by Lambourne-based Marcus Tregoning, Nayef won the race by a neck from Tamburlaine.

Nayef still has room fordevelopment, and he is already being talked of as a possible contender for next year’s 2,000 Guineas.

However, there is still some debate over whether the Hamdan Al Maktoum horse will stay with his current trainer, or leave for Dubai this winter and enter the Godolphin stable for the 2001 season.

“I will talk to Sheikh Hamdan about plans,” said Tregoning. “Next year will look after itself.”
