  • The Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund is organising two high adventure holidays to help raise funds

The Mark Davies Injured Riders’ Fund wants to hear from riders and non-riders who want take part in its latest challenges to raise money.

For riders, there is a trip through the Waterberg Plateau in South Africa with a chance to see stunning scenery and game, including lions and elephants.

“The trip has beenspecially packaged for us by Horizon Horseback Adventures,” says fund organiser Lyn How.

“It’s not a trip you could get from a brochure. It includes five days camping in the bush, but also offers the comfort of staying in a homestead and lodge. Applicants must be able to ride well as it will be fast”.

For the first time, the fund is also organising a challenge for non-riders.

“We’ve had a number of people interested in previous years who’ve said they’d like to go, but couldn’t leave their non-riding partners.

“Non-riders will be offered the opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro (East Africa) up the Rongai route, which is the least used on the Kenyan side. Applicants don’t need any climbing experience, but they must be very fit,” said Lyn.

The climbers will finish their trip with a three-day safari.

The South African trip is from 23 October to 1 November 2002, with another trip planned for later in November if there is more than eight applicants.

The Kilimanjaro climb takes place from 12 February to 23 February 2003.

All applicants, who must be over 18, will have to cover the costs of the trips which are offered at reduced prices. Applicants must also raise at least £500 for the fund.
