Product test: Comfy socks

  • We test Barbour’s equestrian socks in the saddle and around the yard during wet and cold weather

    Barbour’s contoured equestrian socks

These knee-high socks are made from a mix of a thermal yarn called Thermolite, Lycra and nylon.

Described by Barbour as “extremely thermal”, they have a padded heel and sole for extra comfort.

The olive-coloured socks are machine washable at 40øC and are available in medium and large sizes.

Cost at around £9 per pair.

    Tester’s comments

“These socks were extremely comfortable both while riding and when busy around the yard,” says Carol Phillips.

“They were stretchy enough to fit without slipping down my slim legs, but weren’t so tight that they stopped the blood getting to my feet. They kept my feet at a comfortable temperature without being bulky.

“They are longer than my normal riding socks, reaching just below my knee, which kept my lower leg cosy on cold days. The padded soles helped prevent my feet becoming sore while teaching and doing jobs around the yard.”

“The first time I wore the socks I was concerned that the loop stitching on the heel appeared to be ‘bobbling’ but after continued use and washing they have kept their shape and are showing little signs of wear.

“These socks are a little more expensive than a normal pair but they are very comfortable and I think they are worth the money.”
