Top riders to the rescue

  • Top competitors donate tack and equipment to the BHS Rescue Centre at HORSE 2002 which takes place this week

International event rider Karen Dixon (pictured right), show jumper Billy Twomey and four-in-hand driver Karen Bassett will be donating items of tack and equipment to help support the British Horse Society’s Rescue Centre at HORSE 2002.

All visitors to HORSE 2002, which is taking place at Hartpury College, near Gloucester, Glos on 2 March, are being encouraged to support the appeal by bringing at least one item that they no longer need or use to add to Karen, Billy and Karen’s donations.

Zarra Lea, manager of BHS’s Warwickshire-based rescue centre, says they are hoping for items they can use on a day-to-day basis, such as leadropes, headcollars and grooming equipment.

“Every rider or horse owner has bits and pieces lying around that they no longer use, but that are still in good repair and have years of life left in them,” says Zarra. “Rather than letting these items gather dust in the corner of a tack room, they should bring them along to HORSE 2002 so rescued horses and ponies can benefit.”

As well as lecture demonstrations by Karen Dixon, Billy Twomey and Karen Bassett, top dressage trainer Jennie Loriston-Clarke and join-up expert Richard Maxwell will also be entertaining the HORSE 2002 crowds.

The event will alsoinclude a range of horsecare talks and lectures, tradestand shopping and a “Dancing Horses” finale .

Tickets cost £14.50 for adults and £9.50 for students and under 16s on the door, but Horse & Hound Online users can save £2 per ticket by pre-booking via the special hotline number (tel: 01403 256255).
