Two horses have been killed in a collision with a lorry on the MI after more than 30 run loose
The MI was closed from junction 30 to 31 for an hour in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a group of more than 30 horses ran escaped from a field in South Yorkshire.
One horse was killed outright after colliding with an articulated lorry on the southbound entry slip road on to the motorway near Aston in South Yorkshire.
Another horse had to be put down as a result of its injuries.
Police helicopters used thermal imaging equipment to search the area to find the others.
It’s not yet clear how the horses got free from the field where they weregrazing near the motorway.
The lorry driver was not injured in the accident.
