Owner appeals for help after her pony is stolen from its stable in Yorkshire
A pony has been stolen from a farm near Boston Spa, Yorkshire on Friday 1 March, leaving its 11-year-old rider “devastated”.
The 13.2hh bay mare, Bowes Midnight Mist, is believed to have been taken from her stable at around 6.30am on Friday morning. She was seen being ridden bareback by a man, still wearing her blue stable rug, along the A61 towards Leeds at around 7.30am.
“We left ‘Roo’ in her stable on Thursday evening as usual,” explains owner Helen Greenwood. “My mother called me when she arrived at the yard at 8am on Friday to say she was missing.”
“We couldn’t believe it. My daughter’s previous pony died five months ago and we bought Roo to help her get over her loss. To have Roo stolen has been terrible – Eden can’t sleep or eat for worry.”
An appeal on Radio Leeds produced numerous sightings of the pony whose movements were tracked to the outskirts of Leeds.
“We think she may have been stolen to order,” says Helen. “She is a fabulous pony, a real dream to handle and a great jumper. As time goes on, it’s hard to stay positive but we are trying.”
The mare is described as having a thin white stripe, with two white socks behind and a white sock on her off fore. She also has a wire mark on one back leg.
