The National Stud at Newmarket launches its new guided tour season, with Golden Snake, worth more than £2million on view for the first time
Some of the country’s most famous resident stallions and mares are now on view during the National Stud’s new 75-minute tour.
Visitors will meet some of the best bloodstock in Britain, including six stallions, 140 mares and more than 40 foals.
The star of this year’s tour is expected to be six-year-old Golden Snake, the winner of four group one races, who is estimated to be worth around £2 million.
The 16.1hh bay is said by staff to have “a lovely personality” and is “very laid back”.
The other new stallion standing at the Stud for 2002 is 11-race winner, Mutaman, owned by Sheik Hamdam.
All equine inhabitants live a horse’s “life of luxury” at the stud .
Each stallion leads a “normal horse’s life”, with regular turnout in its own individual paddock. They also get hand-walked and some are lunged.
Chief executive of the National Stud, Miles Littlewort, said: “With two exciting new stallions standing at stud this season, there appears to be great enthusiasm among the public to visit this year.
“We certainly have plenty of mares and foals to view, with another 70 foals yet to be born.”
Guided tours run twice daily at 11.15am and 2.30 pm. Tickets cost £5.
