The loveable donkey from Oscar-winning movie Shrek has been twice nominated in the All Star Animal Awards to be screened this weekend
The animal Oscars programme, whichwill be screened on ITV1 at 5.40pm on Sunday 30 March, features some of the year’s best loved screen animals – including the donkey character from the animated hit movie of the year Shrek .
Donkey has been nominated in two categories: Best Animated Animal and Funniest Animal Performance.
Another Hollywood favourite, Lou, the puppy from the movie Cats and Dogs also received two nominations – Best Real Animal in a Film and Cutest Animal ofthe Year.
One winner has already been named – Lassie, the Collie who became a Hollywood star more than 50 years ago in the film, Lassie Come Home.
The current Lassie, the ninth generation son of the original, won the Lifetime Achievement Award for a Real Animal.
There was also one special category outside the film world – Outstanding Achievement by an Animal. One of the nominees was Bessie, a Labrador who saved a nine-year-old girl from an attack by a horse in a field.
According to reports, the horse grabbed the child by her shirt, biting deep into her stomach and threw her up into the air. Bessie barked at the horse to distract it, blocking its path to the family.
Theshow’s presenter, Spice Girl Mel B, said : “The dogs nominated for the Outstanding Achievement Award were all amazing. I was so impressed by the things that they’d done and by their loyalty and bravery.”
