Police appeal for help after a pony mare belonging to a welfare campaigner in Wales dies after being attacked in its stable
Police in Wales are investigating an attack on apart-bred Welsh pony on a yard in Fochriw, Rhymney Valley and want to hear from anyone who might have any information.
The pony, which belonged to Ann Keating, an active campaigner on the behalf of horses left on a common in South Wales, later died as a result of its injuries.
Ann Keating recently appeared on BBC Television’s Countryfile programme to bring attention to the plight of ponies left on Gelligaer Common, in the area.
Campaigners are concerned that the area is being overgrazed with an estimated 500-600 animals on the land.
The RSPCA is in discussion with commoners, landowners and the local authority to find a long-term solution to the problem.
