The BSJA is reviewing its disciplinary procedures following complaints over the recent stewards’ inquiry involving former Olympic show jumper, Nick Skelton
The BSJA’s internal disciplinary procedures are to be reviewed at a board meeting on Monday 15 April following a flood of complaints from members.
The chairman of the BSJA, Peter Gillespie, says he’s received “numerous complaints” following the verdict of the stewards’ inquiry into an incident involving former top British show jumper turned trainer, Nick Skelton.
Nick was reprimanded and cautioned for using “foul and abusive language” to two young riders at last year’s Young Rider European Championships in Spain.
Peter explains: “The association is being ridiculed for inconsistencies. Many people have complained about the inquiry’s leniency towards a high-profile member at a high-profile event when in other cases, less-well known members have received fines, bans and suspensions.”
“Members are complaining that there isa two-tier system – they want a level playing field. ”
Peter said the association had already been in talks with the Jockey Club to get their guidance on inquiries and hoped to get a report on the findings so far at the board meeting on Monday.
“If there is anything we can implement in the immediate future, we will,” he concluded.
