The BHS wants to hear from riders who want to help raise money for its road safety campaign
The BHS is planning to give its road safety campaign a boost with a sponsored ride round Eland Lodge Farm near Ashbourne in Derbyshire.
The ride, which will take place on 18 and 19 May, will be started by event rider, Ian Stark, who will jump round a new intermediate course he has designed.
The ride will run through the meadows of the farm and into the lanes and forests of the Duchy of Lancaster estate.
Part of the ride will go through a route designed for the Queen in 1986 and has not been used since.
Safety officer for the BHS, Sheila Hardy, said: “Riders and carriage drivers want safer roads and for motorists to treat them with respect and consideration to prevent some of the 3,000 accidents involving horses that happen on our roads every year.
“This is every rider’s chance to help us make it happen.”
The ride, which is expected to take around two to three hours, will be run over two days, with an option to stay overnight.
There will be a special short route for beginners and lead reins.
Riders will be expected to raise a minimum of £15 in sponsorship.
There will be barn dance on the Saturday night and prizes for those who raise the most money.
