Mick Kinane will not partner Johannesburg in the Kentucky Derby due to a seven-day ban
Mick Kinane will not be able to ride Johannesburg in the Kentucky Derby after losing hisappeal against a seven-day riding ban.
The Irish jockey had been found guilty of irresponsible riding of a major nature on Sahara Desert, first past the post at Newmarket last Thursday.
At an inquiry in London on Friday the Jockey Club’s Disciplinary Committee upheld the ban which prevents Kinane from partnering Johannesburg, last season’s top European two-year-old, at Churchill Downs on Saturday 4 May.
“Of course it’s a disappointment,” said Kinane as he appeared from the inquiry.
The suspension runs from 27, 29 & 30 April and 1-4 May, with the Kentucky Derby being run on the last day of his ban.
