Dettori cautioned by Jockey Club

  • Frankie Dettori has been cautioned by the Jockey Club for not “riding a horse out” earlier this year

Frankie Dettori has received a caution for not “riding out” his mount Lobos ina race at Newmarket on 21 June.

The disciplinary committee of the Jockey Club found the Italian rider not guilty of “not trying to gain the best possible place in a race” at an inquiry in London earlier today (Thursday 15 August).

The panel were looking into whether Dettori had given Lobos every chance of obtaining the best possible placing in the race won by Distinction. He was cautioned for failing to ride the three-year-old out.

Ed Dunlop, trainer of Lobos, was cleared, but was fined £240 for failing to tell the Jockey Club that his horse had finished lame.

“I got off the non-triers charge and obviously that is good news,” said Frankie. “I was cautioned for slowing my horse down and not riding out for 10th place, but I’m pleased my name’s been cleared.

“They accepted the circumstances of the race and it’s nice to leave the place without my name tarnished,” he added.

“I brought my Dad with me so he could do some shopping and it’s a nice day for it!” he said with a laugh as he left the Jockey Club’s headquarters in London’s Portman Square.
