Pony dies in suspected arson attack

  • A pony has died following a fire at stables in Allhallows, Kent

A Shetland pony has died following a fire at a farm in Allhallows on the Hoo Peninsula in Kent.

Three other horseswere led to safety, but firefighters were unable to reach the pony which was trapped in its stable.

Police are investigating the fire which started at around 1.30am on Friday 6 September.

They believe the cause of the fire may be arson as there have been a number of suspicious fires at farms in the area in the past three weeks.

Strood sub-officer Tony Delieu explained that by the time fire crews arrived the fire had already taken hold.

“The whole building was alight and we had to call for back up. Four pumps were used to fight the fire and we stayed until dawn when a relief crew took over.”

“We had to cut the bolts on some of the stable doors and the horses where then led away by their owners. They were quite shaken, but physically unharmed.”

“The pony that died, which I believe was a Shetland, was overcome by smoke and would have died before the fire reached it.”

The rural community is on their guard following this latest fire and anyone with any information should contact Crimestoppers (tel: 0800 555111)
