Spotlight on best of British vaulting


  • Britain’s best vaulters compete for national titles at Warwickshire College this weekend

    The UK’s best vaulters, including those who have just returned from the World Equestrian Games in Spain, will be heading to Warwickshire for the British Vaulting Championships at Moreton Morrell on Saturday (5 October).

    The Scottish Equestrian Vaulting Team are favourites for the advanced team class following a good performances in Spain at WEG, although the young English vaulting squad (EVS) will ensure they don’t have it all their own way.

    In the individual class John McNally will be defending his title from Phillip Beasley, who was best of the Britishat WEG, and from up-and coming-star Ricky Davis.

    The female individual class will be closely contested with Lucy Bell and Sarah Watson putting their disappointment at missing out competing at WEG behind them. Strong competition isexpected from the Windrush Group and from Scotland.

    The intermediate, novice and pre-novice classes will see entries from Scotland, East Anglia, Wales, and the Midlands, while vaulting stars of the future will steal the limelight in the fun classes.

    “We have had a really strong entry for this year’s championships with 12 teams and around 35 individuals competing,” says BEV director Julie McNally. “The event has a fun and friendly atmosphere and spectators are welcome.”

    The action begins at 9am with the pre-novice class, while WEG team members will be in action in the advanced teams classes which start at lunchtime.
