Farewell to… Ascot Park polo club founder Peter Grace

  • Peter Grace, founder of Ascot Park Polo Club and a life playing member of Guards Polo Club, died in his sleep at home in Sunningdale, Berks, on Saturday, 16 March. He was 74.

His first love was showjumping and he was selected to represent New Zealand in the 1960 Olympics, but the country could not afford to send the team.

After Peter moved to England with his wife Elisabeth and their daughters, they were based at Cowdray, then Guards, before Peter established Ascot Park Polo Club in 1989.

He taught dozens of players and was extremely proud of his four daughters, who formed the “Amazing Graces” polo team.

Ascot Park Polo Club will hold a remembrance celebration of Peter’s life later this year.
