Olympic gold medal winning showjumper Nick Skelton was appointed an OBE at Buckingham Palace yesterday (Tuesday 4 December).
Nick was named an OBE for services to equestrian sport in The Queen’s Birthday Honours list in June.
“it was a very good day, and a honour to receive an OBE from The Queen,” Nick told H&H.
“I’m really pleased, and hopefully this will help to raise the profile of the sport too.”
Fifty-four-year-old Nick, alongside Big Star, was part of the gold medal winning team with Ben Maher, Scott Brash and Peter Charles at Greenwich in August.
It was a seventh Olympic appearance for Nick, and a first gold medal. And he’s now aiming for Rio in 2016.
Other equestrians to be awarded an OBE in the past include Richard Meade, Nicola Tustain, AP McCoy, Pat Eddery and Toby Balding.
