Rider dies after falling from horse in East Sussex


  • A rider has died after falling from her horse in East Sussex.

    Twenty-eight-year-old Caitriona O’ Leary died on Saturday 2 June, five days after falling on the road.

    Local reports said Miss O’Leary from Tideswell Road, Eastbourne, was riding a 12-year-old ex-racehorse called Mister.

    The horse spooked and bolted on the A271 in Hailsham, East Sussex on 28 May.

    Miss O’Leary suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to Royal London Hospital.

    A spokesman for Sussex Police confirmed: “A woman who was critically injured when she fell from her horse and sadly died has been identified as Caitriona O’Leary. She sustained serious injuries and died as a result of these injuries on Saturday 2 June.”
