He may have won a wild card into Britain’s richest race, but he won’t run in a Classic any time soon.
Three-year-old Goldoni won the Investec Derby trial last week at Epsom (25 April) and secured himself a place in the Derby on 2 June.
But he’s missing some vital equipment that allows him to compete – testicles!
Goldoni – the only gelding in the race – was ridden by jockey David Probert and won by a length and three-quarters.
The wild card entry was new for this year, but only colts and fillies are eligible for the Derby.
But undeterred trainer Andrew Balding says the horse, by Dylan Thomas, is now aimed at the Lingfield Derby trial and possibly Royal Ascot.
“He’s improved following gelding so I’ve no regrets,” Mr Balding told the Racing Post.
