King’s Troop equitation instructor to run marathon for injured riders

  • The equitation instructor of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery will be running the London Marathon in aid of the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund (MDIRF) this weekend.

Warrant Officer class 2 (EI) James Grantham, who is a keen triathlete, will be undertaking the 26-mile challenge this Sunday (22 April).

“Dealing with horses and riders every day I am only too aware of how easily an accident can happen either whilst riding or working around horses, it will always happen when you least expect it and we all think it will never happen to us,” said James.

“We all need to try to help each other in times of need and I feel that by running the marathon for the MDIRF I can do something to help those injured while partaking in a sport we all love.”

Mark Davies was an event rider who died following an accident at Burghley Horse Trials in 1988. His parents, Jane, and the late Michael, established the fund in his memory, to help injured riders.

MDIRF supports people who have suffered from an accident that has happened on or around horses, at home or at a riding event.

The charity is also hosting a “Marathon Man Dinner” at Inner Temple, London this Friday (20 April).
