Boy, it’s been cold! Getting out of a warm van to shoe a horse takes some mental strength. It’s a bit like jumping into the sea. You just have to go for it.
Once out and under a horse I soon warm up and, luckily for me, my hands and feet don’t suffer too much. Holding the tools is a bit unpleasant though as the steel soon sucks any heat from your hands. I have experimented with gloves, but, they make me even more mal-co-ordinated than I usually am, so I’m resigned to toughing it out.
I’ve no idea what the weather has in store for us this week, but I’m prepared for the worst. Long johns, snood, thermal base layers etc are all at the ready. The danger is that I might cook myself if I misjudge the conditions.
I’d rather be too cold than too hot and anyway, if I’m too cold I can always work faster. The sooner we’re finished the sooner I’m back in the nice warm van! The picture is of the van on Tuesday when we were up on Exmoor. The scenery was spectacular.
