War Horse film gallops into the Oscar race

  • War Horse is one of the most eagerly-awaited films of recent years – and finally hits cinemas in the UK on 13 January (Christmas Day in the USA).

Steven Spielberg’s film is already generating an Oscar buzz. It’s been nominated in the best picture category for the Golden Globes, which are a good indicator of the Oscars.

War Horse caught Spielberg’s attention when his long-time producer, Kathleen Kennedy, saw the award-winning National Theatre production – with its extraordinary life-size puppets – during a visit to London.

The film has the seal of approval from author Michael Morpurgo, who wrote the novel, War Horse nearly 30 years ago.

Our news editor, Flora Watkins, has been to one of the first preview screenings. You can read her review in this week’s H&H, out today (22 December).
