A man has been arrested following the discovery of the severed head of a Shetland pony in Co Durham.
A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft and animal cruelty but later released on bail.
Trigger, a seven-year-old Shetland, was reported stolen from his paddock in Spennymoor on 9 November.
But when owner Patricia Lister was out searching for Trigger on Wednesday (16 November) when she she came across his severed head on a track, about a ten-minute walk away from his paddock.
The rest of his body was missing but has since been found in woodland between Spennymoor and Ferryhill.
PC Paul Colman from Durham Constabulary said: “Trigger’s owner is relieved that the rest of his body has now been found but she remains extremely distressed about what happened.”
