A courageous donkey has been honoured for saving a sheep from a dog attack.
Dotty (not pictured) received a PDSA certificate for animal bravery yesterday (Tuesday 5 April) in Throxenby, Scarborough.
The donkey galloped in to save Stanley, with whom she shares a stable and a field, when the dog started attacking the sheep on 18 April 2009.
She pinned the dog to the ground.
The sheep lost two teeth and suffered facial paralysis but survived.
Stanley and Dotty’s owner, 63-year-old Ann Rogers, was delighted with the award.
“Dotty was so brave. She saw Stanley in distress and charged down the field to rescue him,” she said.
“I am very proud of her and so pleased that her bravery has been recognised by the PDSA.”
PDSA Trustee John Murphy said: “When Dotty was faced with her moment of truth this brave donkey did not shy away.”
The PDSA Certificate for Animal Bravery was instituted in 2001 and Dotty is the tenth recipient, alongside nine dogs.
