British Eventing (BE) has adjusted the balance of its foundation points (FP) allocation, for placings at BE100 and BE90 events, which was launched last season.
This year, BE100 winners will score 16 points, compared to 10 in 2010, which is now double the BE90 points allocation. The latter remains unaltered on eight for a win.
The BE100 FP scale decreases gradually to four for minor places (two in 2010), but an unplaced double clear is unchanged at two points.
BE sports development manager Paul Graham said that this brings the lower levels of the sport in alignment with novice, intermediate and advanced, where the points for a win double at each level up.
“The sport committee felt that the balance of the scale was not reflective of the achievement at the levels,” said Mr Graham.
“We felt that the principle in foundation points should mirror that in the higher levels, by doubling up from the level below.”
The new system has been backdated on to the 2010 results — so members who scored FPs at BE100 level last year will notice that the points have increased for their horse.
However, the old points scale will still apply to the 2010 top-100 FP rankings.
Four trophies will be awarded at the Grassroots Championships at Badminton to last year’s category winners.
These are Xavier Traisnel (rider with the most FPs), Harriet Gloag (owner of horse with most FPs), Jan Drewett (most FPs for rider not competing above BE90) and Karen Royles (most FPs for rider not competing above BE100).
