Quantock huntsman abandons appeal against conviction

  • Somerset huntsman Richard Down has abandoned his appeal against a conviction for unlawful hunting.

The Quantock Staghounds huntsman was convicted in November of using three hounds instead of the prescribed two to hunt an injured stag in September 2009.

A spokesman for the Countryside Alliance said: “The <u.Quantock Staghounds have decided to get on with hunting within the law, rather than embarking on a stressful and drawn-out case that would probably end in the High Court.”
