Vets asked to help with survey of incidences of worms

  • A survey commissioned by the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) aims to help provide horseowners with a better understanding of parasite control.

The year-long project launched in September requires vets to record cases of parasite-related disease seen in their practices.

And BEVA and drug company Merial hope to use the information to provide veterinary practices with better information to guide horseowners towards scientific and sustainable worming programmes.

BEVA council member Dr Tim Brazil said: “Our knowledge of the extent of internal parasitic conditions seen in equine practices across the UK is still limited, so we are hoping this research will provide answers.”

Dr Emma Batson from Merial added: “With [worm] resistance becoming a problem, horse owners need to know that their vets can provide the most up-to-date information.”
