Horse riding centre in east London set to expand

  • Lee Valley Riding Centre in Leyton, east London is set to get 19 new stables. The Lee Valley Regional Park Authority approved building plans on 23 September.

The new stables will bring the total number of stables to 49.

Twelve school horses will be added to the current total of 38, and there will be seven new liveries, added to the current total of 13, to help shift funding for the school’s activities away from the taxpayer.

Lee Valley Riding Centre deputy chairman Mike Rye said: “Over the years, Lee Valley Riding Centre has give thousands of people the chance to enjoy affordable horse riding in the heart of east London.”

The centre runs subsidised sessions for schools, youth projects, riding for the disabled, British Horse Society courses, Pony Club activities, and qualifying events for national competitions.

No new activities are planned, but the new stables will allow all current activities to expand.

Building work on the stables is scheduled to begin in December and finish next November.
