A riding centre in Lancashire is building an indoor school in the hope of running affiliated dressage and showjumping competitions.
Lunebank Riding Centre in Lancashire is building an indoor equestrian centre consisting of a 50x23m school, a café, classroom, stabling for 30 school horses and a saddlery.
Lunebank director Jeanette O’Callaghan started the riding school in Overton 11 years ago with one pony. It has since become part of Lanquestrian Ltd and now has 27 school horses and liveries — with approximately 50 horses on site.
Work on the indoor centre began this summer, and Jeanette hopes the building will be finished by Christmas. She is planning a big open day in the spring.
Lunebank is already a Pony Club centre, but hopes to run British Dressage, Trailblazers and carriage driving competitions as a result of the expansion. Jeanette is in discussion with British Showjumping, too.
The facilities will also be available for hire to local football and ruby teams for indoor winter practice.
Jeannette said: “I used to look out of my bedroom window as a child and plan my equestrian centre in the very fields where it’s now being built.”
Lunebank’s normal services — including livery, carriage driving tuition, hacking and lessons — are unaffected by the building works.
