Event rider killed in fall at Italian horse trials


  • A 22-year-old Austrian event rider has been killed while competing at Montelibretti International Horse Trials in Italy.

    Sebastian Steiner suffered a fatal accident while competing at the event in Italy on 18 September 2010.

    Steiner was riding Cartago, a 15-year-old gelding, when they fell at fence number 11. The horse was not injured in the incident.

    President of the Ground Jury, Mrs Christina Klingspor, said: “On behalf of the whole sport, I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Sebastian’s family.”

    The circumstances of the accident are now the subject of an investigation.
